Edelbrock 8022 Automatic Trans Kickdown Linkage Adapter Kit — 1977 and Later Chrysler Vans
Installing an Edelbrock Performer-series carburetor on a 1977-or-later Chrysler (Mopar) van with a TorqueFlite automatic? The factory kickdown linkage will not connect to the new carburetor on its own — and that is not a detail you can skip.
Without a correctly connected kickdown (throttle-pressure) linkage, the TorqueFlite never receives the full-throttle signal. The result is early upshifts, clutch slippage, overheating and premature transmission wear. The Edelbrock #8022 adapter kit bolts to the carburetor base and gives the factory Mopar kickdown linkage and throttle return spring their proper attachment points.

Why a Correct Kickdown Hookup Matters
- TorqueFlite shifts up too early after a carburetor swap
- Transmission slips under hard acceleration
- Transmission runs hot on long pulls
- Accelerated clutch and band wear over time

Product Type
Automatic Transmission Kickdown Linkage Adapter Kit
Function
The kit adapts the factory Chrysler (Mopar) TorqueFlite kickdown linkage to an Edelbrock Performer-series carburetor. The steel bracket installs on the carburetor base and provides attachment points for the kickdown cable/linkage and the throttle return spring, so the transmission continues to receive the correct throttle-position signal after the carburetor swap.
Compatible Vehicles
1977 and later Chrysler (Mopar) vans — when installing an Edelbrock Performer-series carburetor.
- This is not a universal part: it is specific to the Chrysler van kickdown linkage layout.
- It is not needed with the stock factory carburetor.
Important: Please verify fitment with your VIN before ordering.

FAQ
Is this the same part as the Amazon listing "Edelbrock 8022 Kick-Down Lever Kit"?
Yes. Edelbrock's official name for #8022 is "Automatic Trans Kickdown Linkage Adapter Kit". It is the same part — we use the official name to avoid confusion.
Is this the same as Edelbrock 8021?
No. #8021 is a different kit, intended for Holley Double Pumper carburetors on Chrysler applications. #8022 is for Edelbrock carburetors on 1977 and later Chrysler vans.
Do I need this kit with the stock carburetor?
No. It is only needed when installing an Edelbrock Performer-series carburetor, because the factory kickdown linkage will not attach to the new carburetor without the adapter.
What happens if I skip the kickdown hookup?
The TorqueFlite automatic will not receive the full-throttle signal, which causes early upshifts, slippage, overheating and premature transmission wear.
Which vehicles does Edelbrock list for this kit?
Edelbrock's application is "1977 and later Chrysler vans" (Mopar). Verify your combination — vehicle, transmission linkage and carburetor — before ordering.
